This Year’s 1st Real Harvest

I count this as my first real harvest of the season. It’s my over wintering coldframe Lettuce Reine des Glaces, with a little bunch of ‘this season’ herbs and a clutch of early Radish called Rainbow mixed from Plants of Distinction. The colander is a vintage enamel one that I bought at a flea market at the weekend in my attempt to ape the colanders at Holt Farm. I think I’ll use it for salad harvest for now until the salads get too big and then I’ll plant it up with some Basil maybe.

  1. Looks amazing nothing beats fresh vegetables and it’s a light at the end of this bad weather tunnel we are in England.

  2. Looks very nice… My lettuces have all bolted and I just finished pulling them up and feeding some to my worms – the rest off to the compost bin. When the bolting lettuce becomes bitter it is time to go. Glad to see that your efforts are making it to the table. I ate my my first slicing tomato this evening….so good.

  3. How nice! Am really behind with my veg this year, but yesterday the first poppy opened up. So exciting! Reminds me why I love gardening.

  6. Love the colander idea! And, thanks for the Holt Farm lead. Covered my garlic last night for the freeze! Yellowstone Country gardening has its challenges. Must get the greenhouse filled here soon.

I just harvested my first radishes yesterday, and although I’ve been harvesting salad leaves for a couple of weeks now, I felt just like you, it was a more complete harvest with a shiny gem of a radish to go with it. Love your blog, I’m new to gardening blogs, so having a real good look around, and it’s great to know I’m at the same stage as everyone else :o)

  8. Your harvest looks lovely. I have picked a few herbs, some spinach left over from last year which is now bolting and some Saladini leaves which I sowed in the greenhouse in March. Also 2 bulbs of garlic from last years harvest. When they are finished I shall start on the green garlic
