My Tiny PlotTomato Salad Dressing
The tomatoes are ripening – at last! They needed a bit of help. Basically I had been a bit lazy. I’d let them run amock in the strawberry patch, which meant that several things happened. 1. we had no strawberries because they didn’t have enough light and were overrun with slugs and 2. the toms had so many leaves that I had no idea how many green fruits there were lurking in the undergrowth. Once I had shifted the leaves out and let the sun in they started to go red – and here they are with the first tiny aubergine, some courgettes (that I am trying to cut when small from now on) and some peppers.
I made a yummy tomato salad with all the ingredients chopped really small with a dressing of olive oil, mustard and balsamic vinegar. Pop it in the freezer for a couple of mins to make it really cold…
How fantastic does that lot look! Wow! And you just know it’s really good for you when it’s that colourful. Wonderful.
And, I must say good luck in your new career move. If you’re as good at that as youare down the lottie then just think what you’ll achieve!
Is that a “Black Beauty” pepper in there, by any chance? I have one of those plants in the flat, and it currently has a handful of small (up to ~6cm long) peppers on it. Do they grow much larger? Are they a ‘sweet’ or ‘hot’ pepper? Never tried them before so don’t know what to expect!
well…actually I didn’t grow that one, someone else on the allotments gave it to me but I thought it would look nice in the photo. I don’t know what type it is but it’s definitely a regular pepper and the taste is a bit more bitter than usual but still nice.
I wondered why my strawberries had stopped fruiting – it seems it’s lack of light.
I stupidly (my first year growing) planted pumpkins next to the strawberries – the pumpkins are now enormous and are sitting on top of the strawberry netting. Alas, not a single strawberry (well, it is pitch black unde there).
I don’t think I’ll put the pumpkins in the middle of the bed next year? Big mistake!
