My Clematis – What are they?

As most of you know I moved to Portland nearly two years ago and I inherited a beautiful garden full of the most amazing plants that someone else planted! I’m not the world’s greatest expert on Clematis (cover your ears Dad!). I have five amazing Clematis that are now in full flower and I don’t know what varieties they are. Any ideas plant lovers?

Update:

So I finally now have names for all of these. From the top:

Clematis Asao (pink)
Clematis Elsa Spath (purple)
Clematis Henryi (white)
Clematis Lincoln Star (pink)
Clematis Montana Rubens (pale pink)

Thanks to everyone who helped!

  1. My guess for the dark purple one (2nd down) is Clematis ‘The President’.

My guess for the pink second from the bottom could be something like Clematis ‘Dr. Ruppel’ but it’s too hard to tell – they could be anything…

  2. HI Gill the last photo is Clematis Montana,-Rubens.very fast growing early flowering..Not sure about pics 1 and 2 could be Clematis Lasurstern, the large pink one cant think of the name but it is not Nelly Moser.Didnt i give you a book on clematis when you were in Bath?

  3. The second one looks like mrs Bateman and about the right time of year.

  4. They are all gorgeous. I agree with the Miss Bateman and C montana identifications. The other 2 look too pale for the possibilities suggested. Looking at my clematis book, they look more like Lady Londesborough (blue) and Lincoln Star (cerise), though my book isn’t fully comprehensive, so they could easily be something completely different.
Have you heard? I’ll be in Portland in July :)

  5. Hi VP – yes I did! How exciting. Hopefully we can meet up and you can see my (in progress) garden :)

  6. sorry… I meant the second, blue flowering is Mr President

  7. The 3rd one is called the Snow Queen. I have one love it beautiful white blooms.
